One day ahead of the team's first fall scrimmage the Rams were back on the practice field Friday afternoon, putting in a two-hour session in shells for their seventh practice of camp.
Saturday's open scrimmage will take place in conjunction with Colorado State University's annual Community Open House. Parking lots open at 10 a.m., and most are available at no charge on a first-come first-serve basis. At 11 a.m. the Open House begins, and will offer bouncy inflatables for kids, face painters, free live music and free frozen treats for all, in the areas surrounding Canvas Stadium (751 W. Pitkin Drive). The New Belgium Porch will be open and serving Old Aggie Superior Lager and other favorites. Food trucks will be on hand, and stadium concessions stands will be open and serving a variety of tasty fare.
Stadium gates also open at 11, and the football team will take the field for warmups shortly after noon. The scrimmage—also free to all fans—begins at 1 p.m. Fans will get their first glimpse of the many exciting new additions to the football program, who join returning standouts Izzy Matthews, Josh Watson, Olabisi Johnson, Jordan Fogal and many others on fourth-year head coach Mike Bobo's roster.
Bobo outlined his objectives for tomorrow's scrimmage to the media after Friday's practice.
"We're not going to do a lot in this scrimmage schematically," Bobo said. "We want to do some base stuff where guys don't have to think and we see who can play football. Defensively, it's lining up in the few base calls that we've got, making adjustments to the formations, getting off blocks, taking the proper angles and tackling... Offensively, (it's) assignments; they're going to have the game plan tonight and it's all things we've been working on... offense is about execution."
Bobo also stated that while there are some players who will not be able to play tomorrow due to injuries, it will still be an opportunity for the staff (and fans) to see a lot of different players take the field donning the green and gold.
Cameron ButlerOn playing in all 13 games and starting in seven as a freshman
It was crazy! Games like Alabama, being in the spotlight that you see every Saturday on TV… It was crazy but I loved it.
Have you seen any good movies lately?
I like The Mountain Between Us. It was a good movie. I'm pretty much a hopeless romantic.
How about music?
I've been listening to "Get Down on It" a lot. Kool & the Gang. I've been listening to that before every practice and after every practice… I love Kool & the Gang.
What do you do in your free time between school and football?
I play lots of FIFA. I love soccer, so I play lots of FIFA when I get my free time. Hopefully they'll give us some more in a little bit.
Did you like the World Cup results?
I did not. I like France, but I was upset that Germany got knocked out so early. I really like Belgium; France knocked out Belgium, so I was kind of hurt about that one.
