Football weekend kicks off Friday at 4:30 p.m. with New Belgium Porch Happy Hour & Stadium Sessions

FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State proudly celebrates its Land Grant heritage Saturday with the 37th celebration of Ag Day with 4H, highlighted by the official pregame Ag Day Barbecue on intramural fields 12 and 13, just north of Canvas Stadium. The Rams kick off against Illinois State at 1 p.m. Saturday for an Orange Out, wearing their Ag Day orange jerseys and encouraging fans to wear orange in recognition of Colorado A&M's former school colors of pumpkin and alfalfa.

The Ag Day tradition, started by former athletics director and College Football Hall of Fame member "Fum" McGraw, showcases Colorado farm products with proceeds funding student scholarships in the College of Agricultural Sciences. Roughly 20 commodity groups serve the Ag Day feast of fresh Colorado-grown food. The menu includes beef, lamb, pork, beans, potatoes, onions, wheat and dairy products, green salad, watermelon and more.

"We are proud of our long-term partnership with the College of Agriculture," said Joe Parker, director of athletics. "Ag Day allows us to highlight the importance of the agricultural community and industry in our state. Canvas Stadium and its on-campus location is the perfect stage to showcase Ag Day and get people energized about our university and its football team."

The football program shares in that pride, both with its special uniform design by Under Armour and recognition of the pageantry that surrounds the game.

"One of the many outstanding CSU traditions is Ag Day, which honors both the legacy of the school's origin as a land-grant institution and the rich agricultural history of our state, and particularly in northern Colorado," said head football coach Mike Bobo. "Our football program proudly joins in the celebration by wearing orange jerseys and we enjoy seeing the fans dressed in orange and enjoying great food from the state's producers."

Tickets for the both the Ag Day barbecue and the football game can be purchased here, or by calling the Rams Sales Team at 800-491-RAMS (7267). Student tickets may be claimed by visiting the student ticket claiming portal.

A limited amount of single-game parking is available for purchase in the Ram Lot, south of the Moby Arena lot, in advance only, by calling the sales team. No day-of-game single-game parking may be purchased on campus, and all campus lots close at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to prepare for football pass parking only on game days. Additional single-game, print-at-home parking passes for the Ram Lot and Lot 570 are available for purchase online or over the phone until 7 a.m. on Saturday.

All home football weekends kick off Friday afternoon with the Football Friday Happy Hour on the New Belgium Porch, including music courtesy of CSU's Stadium Sessions, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. A.J. Fullerton will perform live at the Porch on Friday, and on Saturday Kuch and the Gasoline Lollipops take the stage as part of the new Coors Light Ram Walk Tailgate on Meridian Ave. leading up to kickoff.

In addition, a number of improvements and enhancements to the game day experience this season will help fans enjoy a successful visit to Canvas Stadium and be in their seats before the ball is kicked off. Fans are encouraged to make their way toward the stadium well before kickoff and to familiarize themselves with process and procedures for everything from parking to stadium entry procedures by visiting the Rams' Football Gameday page and reading the information below.

Fans are reminded there is a clear bag policy at Canvas Stadium and a list of prohibited items, which includes strollers, bike helmets and all water bottles except crushable plastic types, empty, without a cap. The full list can be found at the link above, and plentiful express lanes are available for fans not bringing a bag into the stadium.

Saturday is game day, and like always, fans can find all the info they need at CSURams.com/footballgameday and by following CSU Athletics on Twitter at @CSURams, @CSUFootball and @CSURamsGameday.

Ag Day w/4-H
For the third year, Ag Day and Colorado 4-H will be celebrated together. The Colorado 4-H Foundation will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a Ford F-150 truck, donated by local Ford dealers.

"The winning ticket will be drawn during the festivities, and proceeds from the raffle will support 4-H programs statewide," said Jean Glowacki, state 4-H director. "Colorado 4-H will have activities involving STEM and Ag Education and more. There will be information about the many ways to join the Colorado 4-H youth development program."

Orange Out
Ag Day will be an Orange Out day at Canvas Stadium. You can get your special orange t-shirt at the Ram Zone, also supporting CSU's College of Agricultural Sciences.

Ag Day History:
  • The 2018 Ag Day will be the 37th year of the event, one that began as a small beef barbecue and has grown into a giant tailgate featuring food from Colorado commodity groups, music and interactive demonstrations.
  • Ag Day was created by "Fum" McGraw, a CSU football legend who served as athletics director from 1976 to 1986. Animal Sciences Professor John Matsushima suggested to McGraw that CSU partner with the beef industry to put on the very first Ag Day. In 1981, 10 commodity groups supported Ag Day, and the event's proceeds contributed to one student scholarship.
  • "Over the past 37 years, Ag Day has helped Colorado State University showcase the vast and unique diversity of Colorado agriculture," said Ajay Menon, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences. "Ag Day marries two quintessential American traditions — agriculture and football. At CSU, this tradition and the celebration of agriculture afford us another opportunity to provide students access to a world-class education, access made possible by resources raised for student scholarships."
  • A portion of Ag Day proceeds provide critical funding for scholarships granted to deserving students in the College of Agricultural Sciences. Each year, the event typically funds between 15 and 20 student scholarships amounting to $2,000 each. Since 2000 alone, Ag Day has funded more than 260 scholarships totaling more than $461,000 for agricultural students.
  • The event has grown dramatically through the years and now annually draws some 3,500 people for a football-day feast of Colorado-grown food. Ag Day showcases many commodities that have blossomed in Colorado with knowledge gained from CSU research.

Plan Your Saturday
On Saturday, the ticket office at Canvas Stadium will open at 9 a.m. At the same time (four hours before kickoff) campus will begin to come alive as the parking lots will open along with the Coors Light Ram Walk Tailgate, the CSU Alumni Center (located in the northeast corner of Canvas Stadium) and the Ag Day barbecue. Two more bands will be performing at the Stadium Session Gameday Tailgate -- Kuch and the Gasoline Lollipops.

At 10:30 a.m. is Ram Walk, when fans may line Meridian Ave. to welcome the Rams football team on its march into the stadium, accompanied by the CSU Marching Band performing and four-legged CAM the Ram.

All gates at Canvas Stadium will open at 11 a.m. and there will be special happy hour pricing presented by The Group Inc. Real Estate and Spectra at all concession stands, featuring $5 Coors Light and Old Aggie beers, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Happy hour pricing also extends for that hour to premium patrons in VIP areas additionally enjoying $5 Coyote Gold margaritas and Can-Ram Cocktails, and New Belgium Porch patrons being offered $5 Old Aggie.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., the ROTC cannon "Comatose" will fire 15 minutes earlier than the traditional half-hour point before kickoff to help signal to fans to begin to make their way to the stadium to continue to enjoy pregame festivities from within Canvas Stadium. Fans are encouraged to plan the time they would like to be in their seats, and working back from that to plan their stadium entry time, allowing for longer lines closer to, and at, kickoff time.

The new "express lane" option available to fans will allow those entering the stadium without bags and only small personal items to find more streamlined and quicker entry. Fans are reminded there are lockers available on Pitkin Street just east of the Alumni Center to secure prohibited items without having to return them to their vehicles, or for those who used transit or bikes to come to campus.

Information about CSU's clear bag policy is available here. Student re-park will run from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. Four wristband stations are located at the Lory Student Center parking lot, Meridian & Hughes Way, at the student tailgate in the TILT Lot and across from the entrance to the Coors Light Ram Walk Tailgate.

More information about how CSU is aiming to improve the gameday experience for fans is available in Joe Parker's latest A.D. Statement.
