Rams finish weekend on the road with 1 p.m. MT match at Utah State on Sunday

BOISE, Idaho – The Colorado State women's soccer team fell to the Boise State Broncos, 3-0, in a Mountain West match on Friday from the Boas Soccer Complex.

Colorado State (3-5-3, 0-2-1 MW) kept Boise State off the board for the first 35 minutes despite a pair of close calls over that span. BSU's Delaney Watson sent a drive from the right side of the goal area to the left side of the net in the 10th minute, but senior defender Lexi Swenson was there to head the ball away. Junior defender Halley Havlicek made a similar play on a shot from Raimee Sherle in the 23rd minute following a point-blank stop from junior goalkeeper Hunter Peifer on Sherle seconds earlier.

Despite the first-half heroics by Swenson and Havlicek, the Broncos (9-2-0, 3-0-0 MW) took a 2-0 lead to halftime on goals from Sherle in the 35th and 40th minutes. Sherle got behind the defense on a pass from Lillie French and rang her first goal past Peifer, off the right post and in the net. Five minutes later, Sherle took the ball by herself from just past midfield and beat Peifer to the same spot to account for the two-goal difference.

French, the passer on Sherle's first tally, added the third tally in the 52nd minute. On a pass from Ashley Harrison, French fired from the left side of the penalty area and beat Peifer to the top-right corner of the goal.

Colorado State finished the match with edges in shots on goal (12-8) and corners (5-4). Junior midfielder Caeley Lordemann had all three of the Rams' top chances on Friday, highlighted by a penalty kick attempt that was saved by Bronco keeper Tara Fisher in the second half. Lordemann also had a header stopped by Fisher in the latter half of the match, and just missed the top-right corner on a shot from just outside the penalty area in the first half.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Bill Hempen
"We had to defend the leading scorer in the country (Raimee Sherle) and did not have an answer. She's the best that we've seen, and she showed us why. Having said that, although our scoring drought lives on I really love this team. They played well and hard for 90 minutes. That commitment to each other is what we can continue to build upon."

NOTES
  • Colorado State was led in shots and shots on goal on Friday by Madisann Relph, who had four of each. Both are career highs.
  • No Ram played all 90 minutes on Friday. Ally Murphy-Pauletto's 86 minutes played led the team for the match.
