FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State volleyball team hosted its annual year-end banquet on Thursday night at the Grand Ballroom at the Lory Student Center on campus.
The evening began with a social hour and dinner, followed by a live auction. Items for sale included a signed and framed photo of the 2019 senior class, a team-signed NCAA volleyball and a five-course wine-pairing dinner at head coach Tom Hilbert's house.
The 2018 season highlight video was then unveiled for the audience and donors, fans and families to witness. The video featured interviews and perspectives from players and head coach Hilbert about the past season and also memories and advice to Sara Robinson, who was added as a member of the program in 2015 through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
Hilbert then took the mic and told a story of "Ram Town" and how each player on the team was a superhero. Hilbert summarized the season and used the analogy of the "superheroes" losing their dominating power for a while, but realized they had another superhero on the team and they didn't even realize it. Sara, who helped the team regain its dominance.
Next, team awards were handed out by the coaches.
BOM Squad MVP (scout team MVP) – Ciera Zimmerman
Debbie Murphy Most Inspirational Award (voted on by the players) – Jessica Jackson
Coaches' Award – Amanda Young
Team MVP (voted on by the players) – Katie Oleksak and Breana Runnels
Emcee Matt Wozniak closed the evening by recapping how holding one of the longest postseason streaks in the country, is an amazing accolade, but at the same time, a fragile one. Referring back to Denis Murphy, the founder of Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, speech earlier in the evening about his story and how life is fragile, but also and how the support from fans and community make it stronger.
