Hume receives USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual recognition

NEW ORLEANS - The Colorado State women's and men's cross country teams have each been named U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams, while senior Carson Hume was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual. The organization announced each respective accolade on Thursday.

The CSU women registered a 3.51 team GPA, while the Rams' men posted a team GPA of 3.17. Each of CSU's women's and men's teams comfortably exceeded requirements for the honor, as teams are required a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for recognition. Hume's All-Academic Individual distinction is the first of his career in cross country. In order to be considered for All-Academic Individual honors, athletes must finish as either an All-Region or All-America performer and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better.

Hume, a chemistry major, placed 13th at the highly competitive 2018 NCAA Mountain Regional to finish as an All-Region performer for the first time in his career. Hume's performance, which improved upon a 56th-place finish in 2017, helped lift Colorado State's men's team to the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the fifth time in the past six seasons.

The Littleton, Colo., native went on to finish 41st at the NCAA Championships, helping the men's cross country team become the first program in the history of CSU Athletics to a national finish of ninth or better in consecutive seasons. Hume's 41st-place finish was just one spot shy of earning All-America recognition (top 40).
