Rams battle Bruins in final game
2/24/2019 8:14:00 PM | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Colorado State softball team battled No. 2 UCLA, but couldn't find an offensive rhythm as it fell to the Bruins, 3-0 in the final game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
UCLA scored a run in the second and a pair in the fifth frame to lead 3-0. CSU's Bridgette Hutton did a great job against the No. 2 team, allowing just four hits and one earned run. UCLA's one earned run is a season low for the Bruins – who averages over eight runs a game and has run-ruled seven teams so far this season.
NOTES
- The Rams failed to register a hit in the loss, but put three runners on base from a pair of errors and a hit-by-pitch
- Bridgette Hutton (3-2) allowed just three runs – one earned – in the loss
QUOTES
Head Coach Jen Fisher on the game…
"It is really frustrating getting no-hit, but we are taking a lot away from it. We've got stuff to work on and I think defensively we made some really nice plays. Without the one or two miscues, it would have been an even closer game. Bridgette (Hutton) pitched a masterful game, she looked really solid and was putting it where she wanted it. She had some walks that could of went either way and made a lot of quality pitches and kept us in the game. Offensively we have to make a few tweaks and not get overpowered. We're sitting in a good place and I think we accomplished what we hoped to out here; solid pitching, really good defense and offense that came though – just not today."

Colorado State will return to Colorado and open its home schedule next weekend hosting a tournament with Idaho State, Nebraska, Stony Brook and Santa Clara.
