2/7/2019 4:55:00 PM | Softball
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team will begin the 2019 season in San Marcos, Texas at the Bobcat Classic. The Rams will play four games against three different opponents during the three days at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
Due to weather in Texas, there has been a slight change to the Bobcat Classic. The Rams will now play on Saturday against host Texas State at 10:30 a.m., MT and Abilene Christian at 12:45 p.m., MT. Colorado State will finish the weekend on Sunday against Abilene Christian at 9 a.m., MT and UTSA on 11 a.m., MT.
#25STRONG
During the 2019 season, the Colorado State softball team will continuously recognize it being #25Strong, referring to 25 years since being reinstated as a sport at Colorado State. The Rams' softball program began in 1976, but did not compete during the 1993 season due to the program being cut at the end of the 1992 season. Colorado State reinstated the softball program and competed in 1994.
LAST TIME OUT
The Rams finished the 2018 season with a 27-23 overall record and 10-14 mark in the Mountain West, finishing 7th in the standings. Colorado State received a bid from the National Invitational Softball Championships (NSIC) and made its first postseason appearance since the 2003 season. CSU made it to the second round of postseason play before suffering a loss to South Dakota State, 7-3, in Greeley, Colo.
SEASON OPENING RECORDS
Colorado State begins the season this weekend and Head Coach Jen Fisher is 4-4 in season openers. The Rams are 6-12 in openers since 2003 as they recorded a 4-3 victory in 2018 against Wisconsin at the Texas Classic.
STRONG START
Colorado State will look to start its season strong again, just like a season ago, when it won its first seven games to post its best start since the 1997 season when the team started 8-0. The Rams made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1997 after winning its third conference championship.
