Rams look to pick up their second win of the season
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State tennis team returns to the court on Sunday, traveling to Phoenix, Ariz., to take on Grand Canyon at 10 a.m. MT.
Â
The Rams opened the season with a split of their opening weekend duals, defeating UIC and losing to host Wisconsin. CSU started its spring with a 5-2 victory over the Flames Jan. 26 before falling to the Badgers, 5-2, Jan. 27.
Â
"We are excited to get a lot of outdoor tennis in," head coach Jarod Camerota said. "Although we would have liked to win both last weekend, our season started off with a lot of positives! The team is excited to compete again this weekend."
Â
Grand Canyon comes in with a 2-3 dual mark with wins over Drake and Southern Utah and one of their losses to Mountain West foe Nevada, a 4-3 defeat. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 23, 2016, with GCU taking a 7-0 win in Fort Collins. GCU holds a 2-0 series lead between the two programs.
Â
The Rams are coming off a successful fall, with six singles players and five doubles combinations recording winning records in tournament play. Combined, CSU went 57-25 in singles action and 25-10 in doubles play in five fall events.
Â
UP NEXT
The Rams will head next weekend to Las Vegas for three dual matches, playing UC Riverside and New Mexico State on Saturday before opening Mountain West play against UNLV on Sunday.
