4/14/2019 2:21:00 PM | Softball
Colorado State claimed its fifth Mountain West Conference series of the season.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Senior ace, Bridgette Hutton held UNLV to just two hits through the first four innings on her way to improving her record to 13-3 on the season with a 4-2 win over UNLV on Sunday. The Rams remain atop the Mountain West standings with a 13-2 record and 31-6 overall mark.
STAT OF THE GAME
Bridgette Hutton kept the Rebels' offense quiet through six innings and did not allow them to get a baserunner base second until the seventh.
IN THEIR WORDS
Jen Fisher on the win…
"Bridgette Hutton pitched really well and our defense made some great plays today. To give up five hits to a team like UNLV, I thought Bridgette did a great job. Coach Pendleton-Helm called a great game for her. Tara Shadowen and Amber Nelson's offense all series was incredible. We really needed that two-run buffer today with Tara's home run – it gave Bridgette a little more breathing room for her to go out there and attack the hitters."
Rams 4, Rebels 2 | Box Score
Both teams went scoring the first two innings as Colorado State got on the board first in the bottom of the third after three-consecutive singles scored a run. Corina Gamboa followed with a sac fly to center to score a run give the Rams a 2-0 advantage.
Colorado State added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth after Tara Shadowen hit her eighth homer of the season to put the score at 4-0. UNLV broke the shutout with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh before a Hutton secure the win with a strikeout.
NOTES
- Haley Donaldson led the Rams with a pair of hits, including her 13th double of the season
- Tara Shadowen recorded a pair of RBI off her eighth homer of the season
- Bridgette Hutton (13-3) earn the win, allowing just two runs and striking out three
- Ashley Michelena grabbed her eighth stolen base of the year
UP NEXT
Colorado State will head to Nevada for a three-game series starting Thursday, April 18.
