Rams to face Colorado in home-and-home set on back-to-back September nights

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State's volleyball team will open the 2019 season at home with a three-game slate, capped by a White Out game with Oklahoma at Moby Arena on Aug. 31 (7:30 p.m.).

Volleyball fans in the state also get the chance to see the top two programs go head-to-head on back-to-back nights as the Rams host Colorado on Sept. 12, then play the Buffs in Boulder on Sept. 13.

The two programs will play each other twice in 2020, as well.

"I think it's great. I think those are matches people in our state want to see, and it challenges us," CSU head coach Tom Hilbert said. "It challenges us because they're good, and it challenges us because it's Colorado. Those rivalry games get teams fired up and they play their best, and we do that the weekend before we open league. I'm kind of fired up about it."

The Rams will play seven non-conference home dates, hosting another in-state rival in Northern Colorado (Sept. 18) and traveling to University of Denver to close the regular season (Nov. 30). They also host Cal Poly (ranked No. 22 in 2018) and Oregon State (Sept. 20). In all, CSU will face five teams which finished 2018 in the top 50 in RPI, as well as three NCAA Tournament teams (Colorado, Cal Poly and Florida State).

"We wanted to have a challenging schedule this year," Hilbert said. "The only thing we didn't get is a tournament the week we play Colorado, and that's because teams didn't want to come in and play both of us. I think there are some hidden gems in there, and Cal Poly may be the best team on the schedule. The Cal Poly coach is now at Cal, and Oklahoma is up-and-coming. I expect it to be very challenging, and it will be better than last year's RPI may suggest."

Mountain West play begins Sept. 26 with a home date against New Mexico, the only meeting with the Lobos on the season. The Rams follow up with their lone match with UNLV, on the road.

The Border War matchups take place Oct. 1 at Wyoming and Oct. 29 at Moby Arena.

The Rams went 23-8 last season in capturing the Mountain West title for the 15th season and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the 24th consecutive campaign. The team features three-time AVCA honorable mention All-American Katie Oleksak at setter, the two-time defending Mountain West Player of the Year. All-conference performers Paulina Hougaard-Jensen, Kirstie Hillyer and Breana Runnels, who established the single-season records for kills (454) and kills per set (4.05) in the modern scoring era, also return.

Renewals and new season-ticket packages are on sale now; they can be purchased online HERE, or by calling (970) 491-RAMS, with prices ranging $75-125. Mini-plan sales begin on July 2, with single-game ticket sales starting July 25.
