Nicholson, Colombo joins Mountain West All-Stars

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Olivia Nicholson and sophomore Sasha Colombo will join the Mountain West All-Star volleyball team as they compete in the annual Global Challenge, July 16-19.
Nicholson and Colombo will be among 12 players from seven different conference schools participating in the event. From July 16-19, the team will compete in the 2019 European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia, featuring junior national and club teams from throughout Europe.
The MW All-Star squad began in 2014 and has now featured nine different Rams. Marlee Reynolds ('14), Kelsey Snider ('14), Cassidy Denny ('15), Adrianna Culbert ('15), Kirstie Hillyer ('16), Sanja Cizmic ('17), Breana Runnels ('18), Olivia Nicholson ('19) and Sasha Colombo ('19).

The 15th annual Global Challenge will return to Pula, Croatia to host under 17 and under 23 divisions from around the world. The opening ceremonies will take place on July 16th and competition will take place on July 16, 17, 18 & 19th. The mission of the Global Challenge is to provide teams international playing experience and exposure. Past tournaments participants have included club and country federation teams from Slovenia, Russia, Romania, Germany, Bosnia, Montenegro, China, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Denmark and Puerto Rico, plus USA regional HP, youth national, junior national, and collegiate national teams.
MOUNTAIN WEST GLOBAL CHALLENGE TEAM
Fresno State's Jonathan Winder, who won 22 games in his first year as the Bulldogs' head coach in 2018, will lead the MW team while overseas. Joining him on the trip is Bulldog senior setter Madelyn Halteman and the 2018 MW Freshman of the Year, Jessica Donahue. Rounding out the all-star roster is Boise State's Kiley Lewis, Colorado State's Olivia Nicholson and Sasha Colombo, Nevada's Kayla Afoa and Dalyn Burns, San Diego State's Erin Gillcrist, San José State's Sarah Smevog and Haylee Nelson and Utah State's Corinne Larsen and Whitney Solosabal.
