National preseason poll has Ram's men’s cross country at No. 17

Rams Tabbed No. 17 in national rankings
NEW ORLEANS – The Colorado State men's cross country team begins the 2019 campaign with a No. 17 team ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) DI National Coaches' Poll, announced by the organization office on Tuesday.
Colorado State has now been ranked in the preseason in six straight years, dating back to a No. 30 preseason ranking in 2014. Last season, the Rams finished the season for the second consecutive year in ninth place. In 2017, the Rams were projected No. 16, which was the highest ranking prior to last year's preseason No. 9 spot.
The Rams return three scorers from last season's NCAA Championships. Headlining that group is redshirt-senior Forrest Barton who finished third on the team and 87th overall in Wisconsin. Also placing fourth and fifth for the Rams were Jacob Brueckman and Maximilliano Martinez – both returning. Satchel Caldwell represented the last CSU runner in the NCAAs that did not record points, but will be looked upon to score as a redshirt-senior this season.
In the Mountain Region, the Rams face stifling competition with three of the top five nationally ranked teams present in No. 1 Northern Arizona, No. 2 BYU, and No. 4 Colorado, respectively. For the second time in as many years, the Rams are a program-best preseason regional ranking of No. 4. The Mountain Region's five top-20 teams are the most of any region in the nation.
Additionally, Colorado State women's cross country team picked up a No. 9 Mountain regional ranking.
Colorado State was also recently projected to place third in the men's Mountain West title by league coaches. The women's squad were pinned to finish fifth in the Mountain West.
Practice started last week for the Colorado State cross country teams in preparation for the start its 2019 season next Friday, Sept. 6, at the Wyoming Invite.
