CSU XC Gets an Athlete of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Redshirt-sophomore Lily Tomasula-Martin was named Mountain West Conference women's cross country athlete of the week after pacing the Rams to a first-place finish at the Wyoming Invite, announced by the league office Tuesday.
Tomasula-Martin, of Estes Park, Colo., set a career mark in the 5,000-meter season-opening race at Little America Golf Course in Cheyenne last Friday evening. She crossed in fifth place overall at 18 minutes and 11.2 seconds – over 35 seconds faster than her previous high mark in the 5K.
In fifth place, Tomasula-Martin represented the top Ram finisher – her first such honor of her career. Four other Rams followed in the top-15 to total 34 team points and Colorado State's first-place finish.
The weekly award is the first for the Colorado State women's side since KcKenna Spillar received the accolade on Sept. 26, 2017. In all, Tomasula-Martin's award is the 20th for the Ram women in Mountain West history.
The Rams are back in action on Oct. 4 in the Joe Piane Invitational, in South Bend, Ind., giving ample time to work and improve.
Colorado State Head Coach Art Siemers
