Rams in Stacked Mountain Region
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State men's cross country team moved up three spots to the No. 14 position in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll, announced Tuesday.
In the poll, the Rams passed Wyoming, Ole Miss and Indiana to get to their new spot after the season-opening meet. Led by redshirt-senior Forrest Barton, the men's squad took third place at the Wyoming Invite for on Sept. 6th in Cheyenne, Wyo. In all, seven total Rams finished in the top-25, including two freshmen.
Again, no other region has as many institutions ranked in the national top-20 then the Mountain Region with five. As far as regionally goes all is the same. Northern Arizona, ranked nationally No. 1, leads the pack followed by No. 2 BYU, No. 4 Colorado, No. 14 Colorado State, and No. 17 Wyoming in the top-5.
Meanwhile after the first-place showing in the Wyoming Invite, the Ram women improved three positions in the Mountain Region to the sixth spot. The Cougars hold the top spot in front of Colorado, Air Force, Northern Arizona, Southern Utah, and CSU.
Redshirt-sophomore Lily Tomasula-Martin was named Mountain West Conference women's cross country athlete of the week after pacing the Rams to the team victory in Cheyenne. She finished fifth overall, and was flanked by five fellow Rams in the top-15.
The Rams are back in action on Oct. 4 in the Joe Piane Invitational, in South Bend, Ind., giving ample time to work and improve.
