Rams Head South for Five Games

PUERTO VALLARTA COLLEGE CHALLENGE
Colorado State will continue non-conference action this week at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The Rams will play five games fours days at the Campo De Softball Nancy Almaraz, including playing the 2020 Olympic Mexico team.

The Rams will begin the tournament on Thursday with games against Tennessee at 11:30 a.m., MT and Ole Miss at 5 p.m., MT. Friday, Colorado State will play California Baptist at 9 a.m., MT before facing Utah on Friday at 9 a.m., MT. CSU will finish the weekend with a game against Team Mexico at 8 a.m., MT on Sunday.

STRONG START
Colorado State will look to start its season strong again, just like a season ago, when it was 6-2 through the first eight games of the season. The last couple seasons the Rams have had strong starts, combining for a 13-3 record through the first two weekends the last two seasons.

LAST TIME OUT
Colorado State began the 2020 season at the Texas Classic posting a 4-1 record.

CSU recorded wins against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, Maryland, Lamar and Wichita State. The Rams dropped their lone contest against host No. 6 Texas.

The Rams finished the 2019 season with a 39-12 overall record and 18-6 in the Mountain West, claiming the conference title. Colorado State also made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003 after posting the winningest season in program history.

Colorado West was sent to the Tucson Regional and recorded its first NCAA Tournament win since 1997 with a victory over Harvard.

Colorado State began the season at the Texas Classic last weekend, winning its opener to Texas State. Head Coach Jen Fisher is now 5-5 in season openers and the Rams are 7-13 in openers since 2003.

OPPONENT SCOUT
Lady Volunteers: No. 12 Tennessee holds a 2-1 mark currently, but is having weather issues trying to finish the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Lady Volunteers are in the middle of the last game of the weekend with host Arizona State. Tennessee finished the 2019 campaign with a 43-17 overall mark, making it to the NCAA Super Regionals against then-No. 5 Florida.

Rebels: Ole Miss is struggling to start the year, as it will bring a 0-5 record to Mexico. The Rebels faced tough opponents at the NFCA DI Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla., last week dropping games to Louisville, NC State, Illinois, Notre Dame and Liberty. Ole Miss is another team that made it to the NCAA Super Regionals last season, finishing with a 41-20 record.

Lancers: California Baptist begins the week with a 2-3 mark after starting the season at the Norcal Kickoff. The Lancers faced four different California schools, including Idaho State. CBU finished the 2019 season with a 21-33 overall mark.

Utes: Utah is off to a strong start in 2020, carrying a perfect 5-0 record to Mexico. The Utes started the year in Tempe, Ariz., knocking off then-No. 14 Northwestern in the opener. Utah went on to earn wins against Western Michigan, Portland State, Kansas and Seattle. The Utes finished last season with a 19-35 record.
