Since opening, Canvas Stadium has hosted more than 500 non-football events.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A successful third year of operation of Canvas Stadium became even more successful as the facility was recognized with LEED Silver status by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

"Since the on-boarding of Canvas Stadium in 2017, we have seen the facility become the vital part of our campus and our community," Director of Athletics Joe Parker said. "We have hosted more than 500 non-football events at Canvas Stadium, and our stadium events staff does an incredible job providing world-class experiences to visiting groups of all sizes from weddings, conferences, festivals, meetings, and more. It is even more encouraging knowing that we are doing all of that in a facility that is sustainable and efficient."

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building, community and home project types, LEED provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.

Canvas Stadium earned LEED Silver status through a number of key areas of focus during the construction of project including:
  • Canvas Stadium offers a robust connection to the greater campus and Fort Collins' bicycle network.
  • Canvas Stadium's connected campus location is walkable and provides limited parking to reduce heat island effect and to encourage alternative arrival by bike, rideshare, walking, and public transportation.
  • Energy efficient fixtures were chosen to help the stadium reduce water consumption by over 40 percent.
  • Local materials such as Colorado Sandstone were chosen for exterior and interior finishes and minimizing the material carbon footprint.
Opened in 2017, Canvas Stadium brought Rams football games back to campus for the first time in 50 years, providing countless new engagement opportunities for the entire university. The 727,000-square-foot facility--financed entirely through a bond sale, with no general fund or tuition funding, and backed by private donations—was designed by Populous, a world leader in design and innovation. Since opening, Canvas Stadium has hosted more than 500 non-football events, and, in CSU Athletics' 2018-19 financial report to the Board of Governors, the facility's revenue outpaced the CSL model by almost $5 million excluding the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.
