Warren Jackson, Manny Jones, Trey McBride and Ryan Stonehouse on first team
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Phil Steele's annual preseason college football publication is set for distribution, and his outlook for Colorado State performances looks promising with Monday's release of the selection of 13 players on his four squads, all on the first three teams.
Â
Four Rams – wideout Warren Jackson, defensive lineman Manny Jones, tight end Trey McBride and punter Ryan Stonehouse – were all selected to the first team. Jackson, McBride and Stonehouse all earned first-team All-Mountain West honors in 2019; Jones was an honorable mention pick.
Â
Five Rams made the second team: quarterback Patrick O'Brien, offensive lineman Elijah Johnson, linebacker Dequan Jackson, punt returner Dante Wright and long snapper Ross Reiter
Â
Wright reappeared on the third team, this time at receiver, joined by position mate Nate Craig-Myers. Defensive lineman Scott Patchan and defensive back Logan Stewart were also on the roster.
Â
Warren Jackson established himself nationally as a junior in 2019, ranking fourth in FBS with an average of 111.9 receiving yards per game and sixth in 7.7 receptions an outing. Overall, he snared 77 passes for 1,119 yards and eight touchdowns, cracking the CSU single-season lists in receptions (fifth) and yardage (eighth).
Â
McBride's sophomore season witnessed a breakout performance, as he added to his resume as a punishing blocker to a dangerous target. He finished with 45 catches for 560 yards and four touchdowns, including a 69-yard score against Fresno State. He posted the first 100-yard game of his career against Boise State.
Â
Jones had his most disruptive year as a defender, registering 54 tackles to rank sixth on the team. He led the way with 8.0 tackles for loss, including 5.0 sacks and amassed five quarterback hurries while forcing two fumbles.
Â
Stonehouse enters his final campaign as a Ram as the school's all-time leading punter with a 47.0 yard average, which makes him the current active career leader (minimum 150 punts) all FBS punters. He has 65 punts of 50 yards or longer in his career, and in 2019, his efforts helped the Rams rank sixth nationally in net punting at 42.45 yards.Â
