Wright Earns Spots on Phil Steele Preseason All-American Team

True sophomore fourth-team as all-purpose player

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As a true freshman, Dante Wright proved to be a playmaker in a multitude of ways, a versatility recognized by Phil Steele this week.
 
The college football publication released the 2020 Preseason All-American Team, with Wright placed on the fourth team as an all-purpose performer.
 
Wright became Colorado State's first true freshman to earn freshman All-American honors by the FWAA in 2019, while also earning a spot on ESPN's True Freshman All-American team. He sat second on the team with 57 catches for 805 yards and four touchdowns. He ranked third nationally among all freshmen with 67.1 receiving yards per game, and his total catches sat sixth. He added 17 rushes for 219 yards, scoring twice and returned 19 punts at an average of 7.1 yards per attempt.
 
His first career reception resulted in a 39-yard touchdown as the Navarre, Fla., product opened his career with back-to-back games with a receiving and rushing touchdown in the same game. In Weeks 2 and 3, he produced scoring plays of 75 yards as he led the Rams with 1,154 all-purpose yards.
 
Posting a pair of 100-yard receiving games, he additionally notched 11 explosive all-purpose plays in 2019, six covering 40 yards or more. In four games, he had at least one rush of greater than 20 yards, seven contests with at least a 30-yard reception. He became the first true freshman receiver at Colorado State to start every game since Rashard Higgins did so in 2013.
