Junior lineman was CSU’s Albert C. Yates Leadership Award
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A proven leader on and off the field since his arrival at Colorado State, junior offensive lineman Barry Wesley has earned a spot on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the organization announced Thursday.
Â
The award, considered college football's top honor for community service, is presented annually to the player who makes an impact on and off the field. Wesley most definitely embodies those traits.
Â
Wesley initially walked on to the Colorado State football program, but has started every game the past two seasons for the Rams, seeing game action at every position along the offensive front his redshirt freshman season. On campus and in the Fort Collins community, Wesley has been just as versatile.
Â
He is an active participant in the John Mosely Student-Athlete Mentoring program, a member of the President's Multicultural Student Advisory Committee and has attended the Black Student-Athlete Summit for the past three years. His campus involvement led to him being named the 2019 Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award winner, given annually to a student who displays strong involvement through leadership and commitment, while upholding Colorado State's values, traditions and spirit.
Â
His community service has included a trip with the Green and Global program, working with Larimer County Boys and Girls Club and taking part in on-campus activities for the youth in the Fort Collins community.
Â
Wesley was one of 114 players to garner consideration for the award, which was established in 2015. Semifinalist will be announced on Nov. 3, finalists on Nov. 23. The winner will be announced at the National Football Foundation's event in New York City on Dec. 8, with the presentation of the trophy to occur at the 52nd All Sports Association Banquet on Feb. 19, 2021.
