Senior wideout up for most outstanding player honor

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – On the final day of Watch List week, Warren Jackson finds himself once again mentioned among the nation's elite college football players.

On Friday, the senior wide receiver from Colorado State landed a spot on the Maxwell Award Watch List, an award presented annually to the most outstanding player in college football. Jackson is one of 90 players on the list, including six returning semifinalists from the 2019 season.

Jackson is also on the Biletnikoff Award watch list, as well as being named the preseason Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year -- just the second time a wideout has earned the distinction in the conference; former Colorado State standout Rashard Higgins was the first, back in 2015.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder out of Mission Hills, Calif., ranked among the nation's best receivers in 2019, sitting fourth nationally with 111.9 yards per game, sixth with 7.7 catches per outing. In 10 games, he finished with 77 catches for 1,119 yards and eight touchdowns, earning first-team All-Mountain West honors.

He cracked numerous program top-10 lists last season, starting with a 12-catch performance against Toledo, the fourth-most receptions in a game by a CSU target. He turned nine receptions into 214 yards against New Mexico, the yardage ranking eighth in a single game. Part of that total came on an 87-yard reception which ranks as the second-longest scoring catch in CSU history, as well as standing as the longest scoring play from scrimmage in the Mountain West last season.

In 33 career games played, Jackson has amassed 124 catches for 1,789 yards and 14 touchdowns, putting him in reach of cracking the career top 10 in program history in each category. His receptions a year ago rank fifth at the school, with the yardage sitting eighth for a single season.

The Maxwell Award, established in 1937, will break down to a group of semifinalists on Nov. 3, with three finalists named on Nov. 23. The winner of the award will be announced as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 10, 2020. The formal presentation of the trophy will take place at the Maxwell Football Club Gala in Atlantic City on March 12, 2021.
