Steele’s All-Mountain West team delivers 10 honors for Rams

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The 2020 Phil Steele All-American Team brings about local flair, as Colorado State punter Ryan Stonehouse earned honorable mention All-American honors from the publication. In addition, Steele released the 2020 All-Mountain West team, leading to 10 honors for Rams, two on the first team.

Stonehouse was joined by defensive lineman Scott Patchan on the first team, both of whom were first-team All-MW selections in voting done by coaches and media at the end of the season.

Wide receiver Dante Wright, linebacker Dequan Jackson and long snapper Ross Reiter were second-team picks; tight end Trey McBride, defensive lineman Manny Jones and linebacker Cam'ron Carter all made the third team; with defensive lineman Toby McBride on the fourth team, joined by Wright and his second selection, this time as a punt returner.

For Stonehouse, this is the second All-American honor in his career, having been named a second-team All-American in 2018 by The Sporting News. He is the NCAA's career leader in punting average at 46.8 yards over 186 attempts. He averaged 45.3 yards this season, placing eight of his 26 attempts inside the 20 yard line, with nine punts of 50 yards or better.

Patchan, a transfer from Miami, led the conference in both sacks per game (1.38) and tackles for loss per game (1.88), numbers which ranked him third and sixth nationally, respectively. He had 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss overall, adding 22 total tackles and three quarterback hurries.

Stonehouse, Patchan, Jones and the McBride brothers have all stated they will return to the program in 2021 with the extra season of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic.
