Conference Releases All-Mountain West Awards

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Seniors Gracie Armstrong and Kristen Noonan were named to the All-Mountain West First Team, while freshman Shayna Ross was selected to the All-Mountain West Newcomer Team, voted on by the league head coaches and announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Armstrong, a forward from Broomfield, Colo., made it 3-for-3 in her Ram career as a conference first-team recipient. With the honor, Armstrong becomes the first three-time All-MW honoree in Colorado State soccer history. Furthermore, she does have a fourth award when she and Noonan were named to the All-MW Newcomer Team in 2019. The number of awards is not the only category which Armstrong's name can be found at the top of CSU's record list. She departs CSU with six career records and three season No. 1 marks. The career ones include assist total (13), assists per game (.295), points per game (.795), shots per game (2.56), shots on goal (65) and shots on goal per game (1.47), while the season marks include assists (8), shots per game (3.29) and shots on goal per game (1.70). She capped her CSU career with 3770 minutes on the pitch – good for 10th all-time.

This season, the senior was one of four Rams who started all 11 conference games – the voting perimeters – and logged a team-high 1008 minutes. Her four goals tied Noonan for a team best, but her five assists represented the team high en route to her 13 points – also a best on the team. Armstrong's game-winning goal against Colorado College marked CSU's first win versus the Tigers, while she assisted two other game winners on the season.

Earning her first All-MW nod outside of the 2019 Newcomer Team was Noonan. The forward from Porter Ranch, Calif., also concludes her career high on some CSU record lists. Her 13 career goals sit second all-time with a team-high seven coming this season, which is the second-most by a Ram in a season. Noonan's 16 points trailed Armstrong by one for the team lead, while Noonan's career 29 points also trails Armstrong in third all-time. This season, she started all 11 MW games this season and was second in most all offensive categories other than tying Armstrong in goals with four. She earned MW Offensive Player of the Week honors after notching three goals in a weekend against Nevada and UNLV with the latter representing an overtime game winner that marked CSU's first-ever Senior Day win. The lone goal at Boise State that earned the playoff-clinching points also came from Noonan.

Following in the footsteps of the previous two, Shayna Ross was named to the All-Newcomer Team, however Noonan and Armstrong were transfers, while Ross is a true freshman. The San Diego, Calif. native obtained the starting job of Ram goalkeeper at San Jose State – CSU's first MW win and first road win – and didn't look back. She was named MW Defensive Player of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week after shutting out Air Force and Colorado College. As a freshman netminders, she was one of three in the MW that spent time in the net (Autumn Monty, SJSU; Ella Wilson, FS). She finished with a 5-3-1 record in the net with the program-record five-game win streak as the highlight. In her eight conference games, she tallied 29 saves and gave up 10 goals for 1.20 goals against average and faced 118 shots. She is the second Ram goalie to earn a spot on the conference newcomer team with Hunter Peifer doing so in 2017.

Colorado State concluded its season 6-8-3 overall with a 5-5-1 record and its second-ever trip to the MW Tournament.
