Trey McBride has now earned first team honors on three of the five recognized selectors by the NCAA.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For just the fifth time in program history, Colorado State has a consensus All-American as senior tight end Trey McBride reached the threshold by earning his third first team All-American designation out of the five selectors.
On Monday, McBride was named to the Associated Press' All-American squad as a first teamer, his seventh All-American accolade overall. He is the first Ram to earn AP first team honors since Rashard Higgins in 2014.
The John Mackey Award Winner has also picked up Walter Camp and Football Writers Association of America first team honors. The final two selectors – the American Football Coaches Association and The Sporting News - will be released later this week on Dec. 14 and 15. In order to reach consensus status, a player must appear on at least half of the recognized teams. If McBride is named to the first team on all five, he will become the program's first-ever unanimous All-American.
The Fort Morgan, Colo., product was stellar throughout his career, but at his best in his final campaign. He leaves Colorado State as the most productive tight end in history, amassing 164 receptions for 2,100 yards and 10 touchdowns. His catches rank him fourth in a single season and seventh for a career; his yardage ranks eighth and ninth, respectively.
He posted six 100-yard receiving games in 2021 (tied for second-best in a season by a CSU target), giving him eight such games in his career, which ranks sixth.
