Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll Released Wednesday
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – About a week out from the season opener and the expectations have been set – at least from the conference – on where the Rams will finish and that is ninth according to the Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll, voted on by the 12 head coaches and announced Wednesday afternoon.
The 2021 spring version of the Rams concluded with a 2-4-1 record and had three games canceled due to COVID-19 complications. The anomaly of a season featured 10 games and a split division format that called for home-and-home series within the divisions and leaders meeting for the conference championship en lieu of a conference tournament. For the traditional fall soccer season, scheduling will return to the normal 11-game slate, playing each school once.
Picked to capture the 2021 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship was New Mexico, the defending champions from the spring season. San Diego State also garnered three first-place votes compared to the Lobos' nine and was picked to finish second.
The Rams will start regular-season play at Colorado as a part of the Colorado Cup next Thursday, Aug. 19th. Conference play for CSU will begin at home versus the Aztecs on Friday, Sept. 24th.
