Malaya Jones is a redshirt freshman from Southern California
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Head coach Tom Hilbert announced the addition of Malaya Jones, a redshirt freshman from Southern California today. Jones was a 6-0 outside hitter for the Women of Troy, but is set to play middle blocker for the Rams.
Â
"We're excited to add Malaya to our roster and look forward to seeing what she can bring to our young team," said Hilbert. "It's really rare that someone goes through the transfer process this late, so we are still waiting on some approvals from the NCAA to get her to play in a match. She will be a middle attacker for us and she might look under sized, but she has a tremendous jump and great feet to the ball. She is also very versatile and could play every position along the net for us."
Â
2020 (Freshman): Played at Southern California and redshirted.
Â
High School: Was a one-year letterwinner at Santa Margarita High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., under head coach Katy Gammon… Named to the AVCA Under Armour All-American Watch List… PrepVolleyball Soph 79 list and PrepVolleyball Senior Ace… Previously won three letters at San Juan Hills High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., under head coach Jessica Papell… Helped SJHHS win back-to-back South Coast League championships in 2017 and 2018… Named All-South Coast League second team and All-Section as a junior… As a sophomore earned All-SCL honorable mention and SJHHS Most Improved Player … Three-time Scholar-Athlete selection.
Â
Personal: Born Dec. 3, 2002 in Santa Ana, Calif.,… Mother is Shannon Guerrero… has two younger brothers Jody and Tosh and a younger sister Jayda… Favorite athlete is Logan Eggleston.
Â
Malaya on CSU: "I chose Colorado State because it gave me the feeling of home and the culture is incredible. I have never felt more comfortable and excited for a school before. Colorado State celebrates its athletes and is a well-respected school."
Â
Colorado State will open its 2021 season on Friday with its annual White Out as it hosts South Dakota at 7 p.m., in Moby Arena.
