York Paces Rams’ Offense to Pair of Wins

Colorado State picked up two wins at the Lopes Up Classic on Saturday, led by sophomore Ashley York.
PHOENIX – Colorado State stayed in the win column on Saturday, posting victories over Incarnate Word and Pacific at the Lopes Up Classic. The Rams combined for 22 hits on the day and 19 runs in the pair of wins. Ashley York paced the offense with four hits and eight RBI for the day.
Game One vs. Incarnate Word | Box Score
Colorado State returned to the win column after recording another 12-hit game at the Lopes Up Classic. The Rams got on the board first in the third inning after scoring three runs on three hits – all singles – to take the lead. CSU added to its lead in the fourth with another three runs off four singles to lead 6-0. UIW got on the board in the fourth frame after a two-run homer. Colorado State added a run in the fifth, as did the Cardinals in the sixth to put the score at 7-3. The Rams' offense pushed their lead in the seventh exploded with four runs on two hits and had the help of two UIW errors to lead 11-3 late. The Cardinals looked to make a comeback, scoring three runs in the home half of the last frame but nothing more.
Jetta Nannen made the start in the circle and was given the win, tossing 3 1/3 inning and allowing just two earned runs in 16 batters faced. Julia Cabral came in on relief and finished the game facing 18 batters and allowing three earned runs. The pair combined for five strikeouts and eight hits. Four Rams tallied multiple hits, including Ashley York who plated four runs and Danielle Serna who recorded three RBI. Jalyn McGuffin, Ashley Michelena and Morgan Crosby all scored twice.
Game Two vs. Pacific | Box Score
Game two of the day started slowly, as neither team generated anything in the first two frames. In the third, Pacific plated the first runs of the game on three hits to lead 4-0. The Rams started to chip away at the Tigers' lead, scoring two runs in the home half of the third off a double and sac fly to trail by two at 4-2. CSU continued to cut into the deficient in the fifth after a RBI single by Ashley York got the Rams within one. After Danielle Serna struck out the side in the sixth, the Colorado State's offense ignited, scoring five runs in the six to take the lead and build a four-run advantage at 8-4. CSU recorded four singles in the inning and used smart base running, moving bases on passed balls and stealing three bags. Pacific had three outs to work with and put a runner on, but Serna finished the game fanning the final two batters.
Sydney Hornbuckle made the start in the circle, tossing the first five frames before Serna came in on relief. Serna earned the win, throwing the last two frames and coming on relief when Colorado State trailed 4-3 in the top of the sixth. The pair accounted for just one earned run on six hits, while striking out nine batters. Serna had an effective two frame, facing just seven batters and punching out five. Both Ashley Michelena and Ashley York finished the day with three hits apiece, including York recording four RBI. CSU's offense again hit double-figure hits with 10 in the contest, including two extra-base hits.
