Colorado State started the Colorado State Classic with a dominating victory over Northern Colorado in five innings on Friday.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – It took the whole team, and then some.

After snow fell in the Front Range on Wednesday night, Colorado State did not know if it would be able to keep the scheduled Colorado State Classic set to start Friday and through the weekend. But the whole CSU team came together to make it happen.

"I almost cried when I saw we had almost 15 Colorado State Athletic department staff out here shoveling this morning," said Head Coach Jen Fisher. "It was unreal. There is no way we would have played today if we didn't have the help to clear the snow off of our 120'x120' tarp. And I just kept thinking that 'I hope our ladies play well today.' and they did. You could tell they were hungry to play. I love my squad; and that's the whole CSU Athletics squad."

Colorado State exploded with 13 runs on 12 hits to start the Colorado State Classic with a dominating 13-2 victory, ending the game in the fifth via run rule. Julia Cabral hurled the five frames to earn the victory, allowing just three hits and two runs to score, while punching out six batters. She was perfect from the circle until the fourth when Northern Colorado got on the board with two runs.

Colorado State's offense was dialed in, scoring seven runs in the second inning after batting around the order and recording five hits. The Rams continued in the third with another four runs on five hits before capping the scoring in the fourth with two more scores. Four Rams totaled multiple hits, led by Ashley York who had a double and a triple, while pushing four runs across. Jalyn McGuffin added to the scoring with three RBI and a double. Peyton Allen led off the third with her fourth homer of the season.

The Rams will continue action tomorrow, hosting No. 5/7 Washington and playing Northern Colorado again. Washington, who is a perennial Top-25 program, comes to Fort Collins for the first time since 2013. Colorado State will look to use the success of Friday's game and continue it into Saturday.

"It lends creditability to the process they have been working on this week," added Fisher. "It's definitely not going to be easy by any means. I really like that we had to play today under tough conditions and we handled it really well. We are working the process each and every day and we're elated to be able to be outside and put what we've been practicing into action."

Colorado State will have two games tomorrow, first against Northern Colorado at 12:30 p.m., MT before playing Washington at 3:00 p.m., MT. Both CSU games will be steamed on the Mountain West Network.
