Rams Finish Colorado State Classic with Run-Rule Victory

Colorado State recorded 12 hits in the shorten 9-1 win on Sunday.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State found its offensive groove again, irrupting for 12 hits in a 9-1 run-rule victory over Northern Colorado on Sunday in the finale of the Colorado State Classic at Ram Field.

Northern Colorado scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the second to lead early. The Bears totaled just four hits and left three on base. Colorado State tied the game in the home-half of the second, scoring two runs. Peyton Allen hit her first homer of the game to tie the score at 1-1 before Brooke Bohlender hit a full count RBI double down the left-field line to give CSU the lead. The Rams extended their lead in the third after Allen hit her second homer of the day – a two-run shot. CSU irrupted in the fifth with four runs on five hits and had the help of two Bear errors to hold a 8-1 lead and forced to leave the bases loaded. Colorado State put UNC down in order in the sixth before drawing two walks in the bottom half for Kaitlyn Cook to hit a walk-off RBI single to center.

Four Rams recorded double-figure hits in the win, led by Peyton Allen who totaled three RBI and scored three runs. Brooke Bohlender also added a pair of RBI on her double – the only other extra-base hit for CSU besides Allen. Jetta Nannen made the start in the circle and earned the win throwing five frames and allowing no earned runs. Julia Cabral came in on relief and tossed the final frame – forcing three groundouts.

Colorado State will begin Mountain West Conference action this week, heading to San Diego State, March 19-20. The Rams will open conference play with a doubleheader on Saturday before finishing the series on Sunday.
