Rams Head West to Face Utah State

Colorado State will face the Aggies in a three-game series in Logan, Utah starting Friday afternoon.

THIS WEEK
The Rams will continue Mountain West play as they take on Utah State at LaRee & LeGrand Johnson Field this weekend. Colorado State is 11-16 overall with a 3-3 record in conference play after sweeping San Jose State last weekend in their Mountain West home-opening series. The three-game series will begin on Friday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m., MT and continue Saturday and Sunday, both games starting at 12:00 p.m., MT.

LAST TIME OUT
Colorado State had its Mountain West home opener last weekend, sweeping the series against San Jose, in which the three games were decided by a total of four runs. The Rams won 6-4, 7-6, and 6-5 against the Spartans at Ram Field in Fort Collins. Maya Matsubara went 5-8 over the three-game set with three RBI and her first home run of the season. Ashley York added to her team- and league-leading triples total, adding her fifth triple in game one.
 
HITTING DINGERS
Colorado State has hit 15 home runs so far this season, including hitting one in eight of the past 12 games dating back to before the Rams' home opener. During that time, CSU has recorded nine homers which included a pair from Peyton Allen against Northern Colorado. Allen leads the Rams with six shots, which seventh in the Mountain West. Maya Matsubara joined the home run club with a solo shot over last weekend against San Jose State.
 
TAKING THREE
Ashley York has hit a team- and Mountain West-high five triples this season, including one against San Jose State last week. She also recorded a triple-bagger against San Diego State, Northern Colorado, Utah Valley and Colgate this season. As a team the Rams have totaled eight triples – two by Hailey Smith and one from Maya Matsubara – while allowing just two.
 
PLAYING CLEAN
Since the start of Mountain West play, the Rams' defense has committed just three errors, leading them to a .982 fielding percentage, which leads the Mountain West. The three errors also ranked No. 3 against the league, behind Utah State and UNLV who each have two.
 
OPPONENT SCOUT
Utah State will host Colorado State for its Mountain West home opener this weekend, after starting the league slate with a sweep at New Mexico last weekend. The Aggies defeated the Lobos 5-4, 4-2 and 13-4 (6) in Albuquerque. The Aggies also faced Weber State this week, picking up an 11-10 victory after scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh on Tuesday to extend their winning streak to five.
 
Utah State is led on the offensive side by Lexi Orozco who is hitting .427 and slugging .482, both rank No. 4 in the Mountain West. Orozco also sits in the top three in the league in OB %, RBI and doubles. From the circle, Kapri Toone and Jessica Stewart both hold 6-2 records and a 3.47 and 3.66 ERA, respectfully. Toone has pitched the majority of the innings, tossing 70 1/3 for the Aggies and holding batters to a .285 batting average.
 
UP NEXT
For the rest of the Mountain West schedule, Colorado State will alternate weekend series at home and away as it will return home and host New Mexico for a three-game series next week, April 8-10.
