Colorado State totaled 15 hits in the victory, the second most in a game this season.
GREELEY, Colo. – Colorado State (14-20) found an offense rhythm on Tuesday at Northern Colorado (17-24), as it recorded the second most hits in a game of the season with 15 and cruised past the Bears, 10-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Both Ashley York and Hailey Smith led CSU with three hits apiece, while combining for three RBI.
Â
Colorado State recorded four extra-base hits in the victory, all doubles by separate players, which tied the season high (vs. Wisconsin, 3/4). Northern Colorado did not do itself any favors, tallying five errors in the seven-inning contest.
Â
The Rams brought a season-high 36 batters to the plate, scoring 10 runs, 15 hits, eight RBI, drawing two walks and leaving 10 stranded on base. Danielle Serna, Makenna McVay and Brooke Bohlender all finished 2-for-4 from the dish. Sydney Hornbuckle (4-8) went the distance, tossing all seven inning and allowing just one earned run. She also struck out three of the 29 batters faced.
Â
Colorado State got on the board in the first frame after Ashley York singled and moved into scoring position by a sac bunt by Peyton Allen. Hailey Smith followed with the RBI single to right to get the Rams on the board.
Â
Northern Colorado responded in the second inning, after CSU left the bases juiced in the top half of the frame, with a two-out triple to score a runner that drew a walk during the previous at bat.
Â
The Rams went on a two-out tear in the third, totaling six runs on five hits and had help from three errors by Northern Colorado. CSU had runners on the corners with two outs before four base-hits gave Colorado State a 7-1 lead. With two down, McVay singled to score two runs – the first scores of the inning, before Morgan Crosby and Ashley Michelena hit back-to-back singles to add two more runs. The inning ended after York hit a double and tried to stretch it into a triple, getting thrown out at third, but not before scoring another two to finish the run.
Â
Colorado State added a run in the fifth after putting runners in scoring position with two down and another Bear error allowed a run to score. UNC put runners on base in the home-half but were stranded as the Rams' defense locked down.
Â
CSU finished the scoring in the seventh after a two-RBI double by Allen gave the Rams a 10-1 advantage, which would be final.
