Senior running back also nominated for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – A'Jon Vivens learned early in his life helping others was a worthy pursuit, and his constant willingness to do so has landed the Colorado State senior running back on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the organization announced today.
Â
Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel from Florida, the award is presented annually to a player who serves others, celebrating their positive impact on society and inspiring greater service in the world. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 1, with finalists announced Nov. 22. The formal announcement of the winner will be made Dec. 8, with the presentation of the Wuerffel Trophy made on Feb. 24, 2023.Â
Â
Vivens has consistently donated his time to projects, while also creating some of his own programs in the state of Colorado. Among his service commitments, he has worked with Homeless Emergency Services, food banks (by donating time and goods), has taken part in the Colon Cancer Awareness Walk, started a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness and helping with social justice, organized a safe voting registration event in Denver, hosted food drives for rescue missions, organized a Juneteenth Celebration in Denver, worked with numerous Christmas toy drives and volunteered at the Denver Rescue Mission.
Â
These same efforts have led to his nomination for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. A panel will choose a 22-member team and an honorary coach, made up of players with exemplary community service, academic dedication and make an impact on an off the field. After final team members are announced in September, fans will be able to vote for the team captain through the official page on ESPN.com.
Â
Former Colorado State safety Trent Matthews was selected to the team in 2015.
Â
Vivens, from Mullen High School in Denver, started his CSU career as a wide receiver, but moved to running back. He has 534 rushing yards in his career on 139 carries and a touchdown, adding 11 receptions for 74 yards. He made his first career start in 2021 against San Jose State, rushing a career-best 31 times for 114 yards.
