Rams Tabbed Third in Preseason Poll

Both Colorado State men and women cross country squads voted to finish third
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Expectations from the Mountain West head coaches have been announced as both Colorado State teams were voted to finish third in the preseason polls.

The men's poll has Colorado State tied with Utah State with 49 points. Air Force reached the most tallies and seven first-place votes to be favored, followed by Boise State with 51 nods and one first-place pick. The Aggies were given the final first-place vote.

On the women's side, New Mexico was once again picked as the conference favorite with 100 points and 10 first-place votes. Utah State followed with 86 votes, just ahead of Colorado State with 83. Boise State picked up the final first place vote but was projected to finish fifth.

The two squads preseason vote has the women where they finished in the Mountain West Championships and the men up one spot. The women posted a third-place mark, coming just two points shy of Utah State who had 73 points in last years Championship. Lily Tomasula-Martin returns for her final season in the Green and Gold after leading the Rams a season ago at the Championships with an 8th place and 19:57.3 mark before a 16th finish at the NCAA Regionals with a 20:49.3 crossing.

The Rams capped the season with a bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Fla., finishing 17th for the programs fifth top-20 finish at nationals.

The men graduated Tanner Norman, CSUs top finisher at the Mountain West Championships a season ago, but will return Brock Dykema for his redshirt senior season as well as Mason Brown. Both were Top 20 finishers at the Conference Championship and posted times at the NCAA Men's 10K race.

Colorado State has four meets on its 2022 schedule before the Mountain West Championship. The Rams will begin the season next weekend at the Wyoming Invite in Cheyenne, Wyo., on Sept. 3. CSU will make stops in Minnesota and Wisconsin before finishing the regular season in Colorado Springs. The Mountain West Championships will be hosted in Laramie, Wyo., Oct. 28.
