The two first-year players were among 62 highlighted by the FWAA.

FORT COLLINS - Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and defensive end Nuer Gatkuoth were among 62 players recognized by the Football Writers of America Association on Thursday as part of their Freshman All-American Watch List.

Relative to the Mountain West, Fowler-Nicolosi and Gatkuoth were two of the six recognized.

It's been a meteoric start to his redshirt freshman season for Fowler-Nicolosi who took over the starting quarterback duties on the road in Boulder and hasn't looked back. After winning his lone start a year ago at Nevada as a true freshman, Fowler-Nicolosi has been among the nation's best passers this season. He is currently the nation's No. 4 passer in terms of yards per game (324.0) and leads all other freshmen by nearly 100 yards (USF's Byrum Brown at No. 41, 237.4 ypg). His 14 touchdown passes at No. 19 nationally and also the most by a freshman.

Within the program, Fowler-Nicolosi's name is already a prominent fixture in the record book.

His games with 57 and 54 pass attempts are already the third- and fourth-most in a game in school history, his 34 and 32 completions are tied for second and fifth, and his 462 passing yards against Utah Tech were the third-most in a single game and the most ever by a freshman signal caller.

Opposite the nation's sack leader in Mohamed Kamara, Gatkuoth has provided an immediate pass rushing threat in his first season of collegiate action after having to sit out last season. A starter in all six games so far, Gatkuoth's 4.5 tackles for loss are second-most on the team behind only Kamara. His 14 quarterback hurries, as tracked by Pro Football Focus, are the fifth-most in the Mountain West and his 21 total pressures (quarterback hits plus hurries) are the sixth-most. According to PFF, his 21 pressures are also the second-most in the country among players who are draft eligible in the 2026 class and the most per game in that group.

Fowler-Nicolosi, Gatkuoth, and the rest of the Rams (3-3, 1-1) are back in action this Saturday at UNLV (5-1, 2-0). Kick off from Allegiant Stadium is set for 5 p.m. MT, and the game can be seen on the Mountain West Network.
