Rams still riding waves with Fowler-Nicolosi

Colorado State coach Jay Norvell has made it clear the offensive staff doesn't want to mess with the confidence Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi has in his abilities. That said, they'd like to cut down on his mistakes and the unevenness of his performances.

Saturday's 30-20 win over Nevada was a game where the Colorado State coach felt was a prime opportunity to take advantage of some things, but many fell by the wayside, mostly on errant passes.

"It's frustrating when you know you have plays, you practice the plays and you believe they're there, and you just don't quite execute them," Norvell said. "We've got to keep working, and I think Brayden has an opportunity to be sharper next week."

After getting off to such a hot start – he threw for 1,150 yards in his first three starts, including 462 in the win over Utah Tech – he's cooled off. He was hit-and-miss Saturday, finishing 15-of-30, missing some open receivers but also hampered by a few drops.

When the offense hit a lull Saturday, he did engineer a drive which helped put the game away, capped by his 38-yard scoring toss to Louis Brown IV, his second of the game.

Confidence wasn't a factor. That he has.

"I don't lose confidence. There's no loss of confidence," he said. "I already know the player I am and how I can be. It's the frustration of knowing what I can do and making those stupid errors or little mistakes that hurt the team."

He's been turnover prone. His 15 interceptions are the most by a CSU starting quarterback since Caleb Hanie in 2007. He's also thrown 20 touchdown passes, tied for the seventh-most in a season.

Closing Thoughts

Tory Horton really wanted to get the post-game interviews over, but he was beaten to the podium by defenders Chase Wilson and Jack Howell. At the end of their session with the media, Horton asked his mates what inspired them about Senior Day, hoping for a plug.

Howell fired back with this response: "We knew we don't have a great receiving core, so it was going to be on us to win the game," Howell quipped, then quickly exited stage right.

Horton, however, had the last word when asked for comment.

"You know, Jack's still a little frustrated because we kind of torch him at practice. He's going to say the opposite, but I feel like the offense has got the lead on the defense," Horton said. "I kind of wish I could bring in some practice clips right now, but that might be in confidence or something."
