Four Rams Named to All-Mountain West Team

Emery Herman named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced Wednesday four Rams, Emery Herman, Malaya Jones, Naeemah Weathers and Kennedy Stanford as an honorable mention, a part of the 2023 Mountain West All-Conference Team. Herman was also named as the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year.
 
Herman finished the season leading the conference in both assists and service aces while being the lead distributor a part of the most efficient offense in the Mountain West. The setter finished the conference season with 754 total assists, averaging 10.77 per set. She also added 31 service aces on the conference season. As a team, the Rams led the conference in hitting percentage at .284 thanks to Herman's productive distribution. The senior also added 311 digs on the season as a whole with 48 total blocks on defense and finished the regular season with 18 double-doubles. Herman is the first Ram named Newcomer of the Year since her teammate Annie Sullivan won the honor two years ago.
 
Jones is a two-time weekly award winner for Mountain West Offensive player of the week and finished the reason ranked third in the conference in total kills with 259, averaging 3.70. The opposite hitter recorded double-digit kills in all but two conference games this season. She hit at a .292 hitting efficiency with just under 1,000 attempts on the season as a whole. Jones also adds 23 service aces and 186 digs as a first-year, six-rotation player. On defense, Jones added 84 total blocks on the season with 13 block solos. She recorded four double-doubles on the season including her first career Mountain West double-double over San Diego State earlier this year. This in Jones first All-Mountain West honor.
 
Weathers finished the season leading the Mountain West in individual hitting percentage at a .435 efficiency. With 140 kills during conference play, the senior averaged nearly eight kills per match. Weathers currently ranks sixth in the nation in hitting efficiency with a .432 percentage on the season as a whole. Throughout the year, the middle blocker added 108 total blocks on defense including 11 blocks solos. In total, the Weathers averages 2.35 points per set. This is Weathers second consecutive year being named to the Mountain West All-Conference team.
 
Stanford joins the All-Mountain West team as an honorable mention after totaling 160 kills on the conference season as an outside hitter. The six-rotation player also took a higher defensive role this season, totaling 246 digs on the year as a whole and 26 aces behind the service line. As an all-around contributor, Stanford added 47 blocks from the front row including nine solo blocks on the season. She finished the regular season with four double-doubles, two coming against Mountain West opponents. Overall, she averaged 2.88 points per set, scoring 343 total. This is Stanford's third consecutive year receiving a Mountain West All-Conference honor.
 
Colorado State will continue its post season in the Mountain West Tournament as the Rams are set to take on the winner of UNLV and New Mexico Thursday at 5 p.m. MT in the semifinal round of the tournament.
