Colorado State faces Weber State and NAU
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After six consecutive wins, Colorado State's women's tennis team garnered some recognition from the ITA which the Rams will pack with them as they head to Arizona for two duals this weekend.
Â
The Rams will play as a ranked team for the first time since 2001, sitting tied for 53rd in the national rankings. This is the highest ranking for the program; in 2001, the team reached 75th. Colorado State faces Weber State on Friday at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the Rams will face Northern Arizona in a dual between ranked teams at 10 a.m.; NAU sits at No. 71. There will be live stats available for the NAU match. Both matches will be held at NAU's Aquatic and Tennis Complex on the six indoor courts in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Â
"We are very lucky to be in a position to travel and play some great teams on the road," head coach Mai-Ly Tran said.
"It's great to play different teams with different styles, especially some teams are more suited to indoor tennis than outdoors so will be exciting to see how we match up."
Â
The Wildcats are 2-3 this season and their historical record with the Rams is 5-4. At home, the Rams saw Weber State at the John Messick Invitational earlier this year, but the last time CSU faced them in a dual was in 2018, which the Rams lost 4-3.
Â
CSU last saw NAU in 2013 as the Rams fell 5-2. So far this season, the Lumberjacks are 3-3 and head-to-head historically are 5-3 with the Rams.
Â
"I'm really happy with how the girls are playing right now. Their attitude and work ethic have been fantastic, so I'm excited to see them play NAU and Weber State," Tran said. "Both teams have had some great results so I'm looking forward to playing them."
Â
This past weekend, the Rams defeated BYU and Brown, both with scores of 4-3. This is the first time the program has beat these teams and Zara Lennon clinched both the victories for the team during singles play.
Â
"Our goals for the weekend are to stay focused on what we can control," Tran said. "We haven't travelled in a while, and it will be good for the girls to continue pushing on with this momentum we have had from our previous matches."
