Seventh straight win for CSU is program record
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Rams are record setting.
Â
Friday, Colorado State's women's tennis team defeated Weber State 6-1, a victory which marks the squad's seventh win in a row for the first time in program history.
Â
"We did not know about the record but it's fun to find out," head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "Today, our focus was the same; focus on the point in front of us and the results will take care of themselves."
Â
For the doubles point, Radka Buzkova and Emily Dush beat Ana Morett and Megan Davies 6-1 at No. 1, while the No. 2 team of Zara Lennon and Ky Ecton defeated Kenadee Semenik and Sicely Ferreira 6-4.
Â
"The team was dialed in from the moment we set foot in Flagstaff," Tran said. "I'm pleased with how they practice and prepare for matches; it really sets the tone for how we want to play."
Â
For singles play, the Rams were very successful. In the No. 1 spot, Dush fought hard to top Morett, losing the first set 6-1 then coming back with 7-6 (3), 6-3 win. At No. 2 singles, Buzkova won against Lombardi 6-0, 6-4. At No 3, Sarah Weekley defeated Davies 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Lennon beat Semenik 6-4, 6-4 and Luana Avelar won 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.
Â
"Radka has been a key part of our success," Tran said, "She shows up every day and gets the job done even when it's not easy."
Â
The Rams next match is Sunday at 10 a.m. against No. 71 Northern Arizona in Flagstaff.
Â
"The team is doing a tremendous job and I want them to enjoy these moments," Tran said. "We'll be looking forward to the next opportunity on Sunday."
