Conference opener is against No. 67 Fresno State
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After getting off to the best start in program history, Colorado State's women's tennis team is ready to take on the Mountain West.
Â
The No. 42 ranked Rams head into conference play Friday with an overall record of 11-2, and the conference opener will be a test out of the gates as the Rams face No. 67 Fresno State on Friday at 12 p.m. and rival Wyoming on Saturday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno, Calif. Live stats will be available for the Fresno State match.
Â
"I have a lot of respect for Fresno State; they are defending regular season champs for a reason," head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "It will be an exciting challenge to go play them on their home court for our first conference match of the year."
Â
The Bulldogs are 6-6 overall heading into conference play. The two teams last met in 2022 and Fresno won 4-1. The Bulldogs lead the series 5-0.
Â
The Rams play their biggest rival at a neutral site on Saturday. Wyoming is 5-8 overall, with the Rams leading the overall series 16-13. The Rams met the Cowgirls last at home during the John Messick Invitational earlier this year and in dual play last season, CSU won 4-1.
Â
"We also get to play Wyoming in Fresno which is interesting," Tran said. "We'd prefer to play them at home, but we always expect them to play their best against us and our job is to be ready and embrace the border competition.
Â
"Our team has been playing well and I feel they are prepared for this moment; I expect close ones."
