Colorado State extends win streak to ten games
A three home run first inning got the Colorado State offense started with a bang Sunday morning in Fort Collins as Ashley York hit a lead off walk in the bottom half of the first inning before Peyton Allen and Molly Gates both jacked long balls over the fence for a total of four runs in the first frame.
The Bulldogs responded with one run in the second inning, off CSU starting pitcher Giselle Bentley.Â
Allen brought in another RBI when she scored York on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second inning. With runners on, Maya Matsubara scored on a wild pitch to put the Ram lead at 6-1 by the end of the second frame.
Freshman pitcher Reagan Wick entered the circle in the third after Drake added another run to the total.Â
Colorado State broke it open in the sixth inning where the Rams added three more runs after notched a run in each of the third and fourth innings. Doubles from Brooke Bohlender and Sydney Hornbuckle sealed the 10-3 victory for the Rams.Â
Wick took the win with five full innings pitched, only surrendering two hits and recording four strikeouts. Gates led the team with three hits from the left side of the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.
The Rams will kick off Mountain West play at UNLV next Saturday and Sunday.
