Road matches with Air Force, New Mexico fill weekend
FORT COLLINS – Now for the good stuff.
Â
Colorado State's women's tennis team will begin Mountain West play this weekend, doing so on the road with a pair of matches. Friday, the team will face Air Force (2 p.m.), followed by a Sunday match at New Mexico (11 a.m.). The conference has moved away from pod play this season, taking away neutral-site matchups.
Â
The Rams went 4-5 in nonconference duals and had last weekend off after a pair of matches in North Carolina were cancelled.
Â
The Falcons are 1-7 on the season and enter the match with five consecutive losses. The two sides finished last season facing each other, with the Rams winning the final conference dual in the season, the Falcons winning in the first round of the Mountain West tournament.
Â
The Lobos are 11-1 on the season and will face UNLV on Friday. Their lone loss came on the road to Montana State on March 8, which they followed up with a win against New Mexico State at home two days later.
Â
"We are extremely excited to enter conference season. Â The Mountain West is special, and you never know how it will play out," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We have a solid team and we know that we can compete with every single team in this conference. Â Our focus has been to make the days count and prepare ourselves to peak in April."
Â
Zara Lennon leads the team with 11 singles victories this season, including a 5-2 mark in the spring. Logan Voeks has also reached double figures in singles wins with 10. Radka Buzkova has posted 18 doubles wins this year with multiple partners, while Lennon and Sarah Weekley both have 13. Playing together, they are 10-5 as a tandem.
