Colorado State concludes conference play with a three-game series against Boise State

FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State softball team (26-17, 9-9 MW) is set for a three-game series against Boise State (30-21, 10-9) this Thursday through Saturday on the Rams' home turf. This showdown signifies the final weekend of conference play, where the CSU Softball team will celebrate the careers of nine seniors throughout the weekend.

What You Need to Know 
  • This weekend's three-game series will commence on Thursday at 6 p.m., and another night game set under the lights at Ram Field for Friday at 6 p.m. The series will conclude with a 12 p.m. game on Saturday, dedicated to honoring the nine seniors in a "green out" event. Saturday will also play host to a 'Bark in the Park' promotion where fans are encourage to bring their furry friends to Ram Field.
  • In the 2023 conference matchup against the Boise State Broncos, the Rams split the series, securing one win and one loss in the two-game showdown. 
  • The nine graduating seniors for the Rams include: Danielle Serna, Peyton Allen, Julia Cabral, Maya Matsubara, Molly Gates, Hailey Smith, Sydney Hornbuckle, Katelyn Hornbuckle and Ashley York.
  • All three games against the Broncos will be streamed via the Mountain West Network. 
 
Scouting the Broncos 
  • The Broncos come into the weekend boasting an overall record of 26-17 and a Mountain West record of 9-9. They've clinched a series victory over second-place Nevada and secured wins against the current first-place San Diego State, third-placed Fresno State, and fourth-placed UNLV, all of whom have already secured spots in the Mountain West Tournament. 
  • The Broncos are the reigning regular season champions in the Mountain West, were predicted to finish second in the preseason poll and currently hold the fifth rank. The Broncos tied in the pre-season poll, voted to finish first in the Mountain West after last season's campaign.  
  • Pitcher Taylor Caudill currently leads the Mountain West with 146 strikeouts in 156 innings pitched. 
  • Freshman outfielder, Sophia Knight currently ranks first in conference with 72 hits and fifth in Mountain West with a .403 batting average. 
  • Both sophomore Sydney Groves and junior Mykenzie Hanna lead the conference with 16 home runs each. 
  • Boise State currently ranks fifth in the conference with an overall .296 team batting average and ranks sixth in pitching with a team 3.92 ERA. 
 
Game Notes  
  • Freshman Reagen Wick earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors after leading the Rams to victory in Sunday's matchup against Fresno State. Wick pitched a complete six innings, tallying two strikeouts while allowing just four hits. 
  • Over the weekend, Senior Maya Matsubara showcased her prowess by going seven for twelve with three RBI and achieving a personal high of five assists. She currently leads the conference with five triples and ranks first in conference batting average with a .492 average. 
  • Senior Peyton Allen ranks seventh with a .393 batting average and is tied for second in runs batted in with 57. 
  • Senior Ashley York currently ranks second in the Mountain West with 47 runs scored and sixth in the conference with a .403 ERA. 
  • The Rams currently lead the Mountain West with a .415 on-base percentage and 19 home runs, while ranking second with a .329 team batting average.
