Horton Lands on Maxwell Award Watch List

The All-American candidate was named to the Watch List for the Nation's Top Player

FORT COLLINS – Tory Horton, a top returning receiver in the Mountain West and a preseason All-American candidate, has been named to the 2024 Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday.
 
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert "Tiny" Maxwell who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.
 
Horton is one of six players from the league to appear on the watch list, as he is joined by Boise State's Ashton Jeanty, Hawaii's Brayden Schager, San Diego State's Marquez Cooper, UNLV's Ricky White and Utah State's Jalen Royals
 
In 2023 he led the Rams with 96 receptions for 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns – back-to-back seasons of 1,000-plus yards. He led the Mountain West in receptions per game with eight and was second in the league in average receiving yards with a 94.7 mark. His first season with Rams in 2022, Horton tallied 71 catches for 1,131 and eight touchdowns.
 
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 12, 2024, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled November 26, 2024. The winners of the 88th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 12, 2024. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on Friday March 14, 2025 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.
