The Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football’s outstanding receiver
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State's All-American candidate, Tory Horton, grabbed his third preseason honor, adding an award that is familiar to Ram fans.
Â
On Wednesday, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club released the 2024 Biletnikoff Award Watch List and Horton is one of five players from the Mountain West named. Horton also landed on the watch list a season ago.
Â
Last season he led the Rams with 96 receptions for 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns – back-to-back seasons of 1,000-plus yards. He led the Mountain West in receptions per game with eight and was second in the league in average receiving yards with a 94.7 mark. His first season with Rams in 2022, Horton tallied 71 catches for 1,131 and eight touchdowns.
Â
The Fresno, Calif., native is also on the watch list for the Maxwell Award (nation's best player) and the Walter Camp Award (player of the year).
Â
The Biletnikoff Award is no stranger for Ram fans who have seen a plethora of pass catchers appear on the list over the years including Trey McBride, Warren Jackson, Preston Williams, Olabisi Johnson, Michael Gallup, and Rashard Higgins. Higgins was a finalist for the award in 2014, while Gallup was a finalist in 2017.
Â
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
Â
The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 600 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers.
