Second weekly award for Rams XC this season.

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State cross country runner Lars Mitchel led the way for the Rams' men's team at the 2024 Roy Griak Invitational last weekend, delivering a performance that earned himself the title of Mountain West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

Mitchel – a graduate student from Huntington Beach, Calif. – finished runner up at the prestigious meet held in Minneapolis, Minn., clocking a time of 25:01.1 in the team's first 8k outing of the season. His second-place finish is the highest by any Ram at the Griak since Jerrell Mock won the meet back in 2017. It was also the second-straight runner-up finish for Mitchel, who placed second at the Wyoming Invitational to open the season.

Two race weekends in, CSU runners have already claimed two weekly conference awards, with newcomer Allison Pippert earning the league's freshman of the week distinction following the season opener.

Mitchel and the Rams will train for the next two weeks to prepare for the Colorado Springs XC Open, which will be held at Monument Valley Park on Oct. 11.
