Dupree hits century mark for first time

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Turning the page to conference play did not produce the results the team sought.

San Diego State's used a mix of explosive plays and long drives Friday night at Snapdragon Stadium, leading to a 45-24 victory in the opener of Mountain West play for both. The Rams fell to 1-4 on the season.

The Aztecs produced 28 first-half points with quarterback Jayden Denegal hitting a trio of deep balls, two of them covering 45- and 42-yards for scores, a third setting up SDSU's second rushing touchdown of the half. Save for the final 8 seconds of the first half when SDSU ran one play, the Aztecs scored on seven consecutive drives.

Colorado State scored its first first-half touchdown since the opening week – a 49-yard scoring pass from Jackson Brousseau to Armani Winfield, the first touchdown the  Aztecs had allowed at Snapdragon Stadium this season. The Rams closed the gap with a 30-yard field goal by Isaiah Hankins, but a flag led to a free play on the ensuing drive for the Aztecs, and Denegal hit Jordan Napier for a 61-yard gain, leading to Lucky Sutton's 14-yard scoring run in the final minute before half.

CSU running back Jalen Dupree finished with 103 yards on 16 carries, his first 100-yard game and the first for a Ram since Justin Marshall had 104 against Wyoming last year. On the drive he surpassed the mark, Brousseau scored a 4-yard run, then connected with Rocky Beers for the 2-point conversion.

The game ended when backup quarterback Darius Curry led a final scoring drive, throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kory Hall. It was Curry's first game, his first scoring pass and the first scoring reception for Hall.

Linebacker Owen Long finished the game with a career-best 16 tackles.
