Colorado State outplays Rebels on windy afternoon in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS  – The Colorado State softball team started its conference season 1-0 Friday afternoon at Ram Field, defeating the UNLV Rebels in the Mountain West opener 9-5.
 
Game 1 | Colorado State – 9, UNLV – 5
  • The Rams were led by Reagan Wick in the circle. Wick picked up her fifth win of the season pitching all seven innings allowing only eight hits with four strikeouts. Three of those four strikeouts came when she struck out the side in the fifth inning. The sophomore threw over 120 pitches against 32 total batters in the win.
  • Freshman Autumn Rutherford continues to shine for the Rams in the leadoff spot, hitting a three-run home run Friday while also scoring two runs. Rutherford matches her teammate Jailey Wilson with 14 RBI on the season to lead the Colorado State roster.
  • Caroline Buffaloe was another bright spot in the batting order for the Rams going 3-4 on the day including a double. She scored one run for the Rams playing as the DP.
  • Other multi-hit Rams were Brooke Bohlender and Jailey Wilson who both had two hits on the afternoon while Bohlender also came around to score on a Kyra Smith sacrifice fly. Smith also added two RBI, both of sacrifice fly's.
  • Defensively, the Rams were perfect on the day including two put-outs in left field from senior Morgan Coleman and four assists from second baseman Kaylynn English.
