Rams Drop Barn Burner to UNLV

39-run game comes down to last out in the seventh

FORT COLLINS  – The Colorado State softball team fell to the UNLV Rebels Saturday afternoon in a 39-run game with a final score of 20-19.

Game 2 | UNLV – 20 , Colorado State – 19
  • Despite a back and forth, high scoring loss for the Rams, Colorado State has a lot of good to take into Sunday's rubber match with the Rebels after scoring 19 runs on 21 hits Saturday.
  • Carolina Buffaloe led that strong offense with three hits and seven RBI including a grand slam in the fifth inning that gave the Rams the lead at the time. This was just Buffaloe's second career jack, her first one also being a grand slam last weekend over Weber State.
  • Another key part of the offense was sophomore Kaylynn English who went 4-6 with three RBI and was one of three Rams to score three runs. She also added four assists from second base.
  • Four Rams totaled three hits on the day including Buffaloe, Autumn Rutherford, Brooke Bohlender and Jordan West.
  • Defensively, UNLV took advantage of the long ball, hitting three out of the park including the game winner in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, pinch-hitter Bri Williams skied a pitch to left field, and it was just enough to go over the fence and lead the Rebels to victory. Colorado State went through three pitchers in Saturday's loss, with none throwing over 85 pitches.
  • Rounding out the slugfest, Jailey Wilson and Lauren Stucky also recorded multi-hit games while Wilson totaled two RBI.
