Preseason expectations set by Mountain West coaches
FORT COLLINS –  Colorado State soccer finds itself in a familiar spot entering the 2025 season according to the Mountain West Coaches Preseason Poll. The Rams were picked to finish third this year behind Utah State and Boise State, the same spot they ended the 2024 season.
CSU was one of five programs to receive a first-place vote in the poll. The Rams earned a total of 111 points, including one first-place vote. Meanwhile, Utah State led the way with 128 points and six first-place votes, and Boise State had 121 points with three first-place votes.
San Diego State and New Mexico were the other two teams to earn first-place votes.
Three Rams were named to the preseason watch list in Mia Casey, Kaja Dionne and Michaela McGowan. Casey and Dionne return for their junior and sophomore year, respectively while McGowan enters her first year in Fort Collins after transferring to CSU from Denver.
Casey is one of the best goal scorers in program history, coming into the season ranked fourth all-time with 12 goals in her career. She led the Rams in goals with seven all in conference play as a sophomore. That earned her first team All-Mountain West honors.
Dionne had a strong first year in Fort Collins with three goals and three assists while providing consistent pressure to opponents' backlines.
McGowan heads north up I25 after playing for Denver for two seasons. Last year she has a strong sophomore season, scoring four goals and assisting on seven more to earn second team All-Sumitt League honors.
Colorado State opens the 2025 season hosting Utah Tech on August 14 at 7 p.m. at the Rams Soccer Field.
