Rams Fall to Lobos in Game Three

Colorado State wins first series of conference season

FORT COLLINS — Colorado State (15-16, 3-3 MW) narrowly fell to New Mexico (13-18, 1-5 MW) with a final score of 9-8 at Ram Field. Despite the loss, CSU's offense tallied 10 hits and drew nine walks, with a notable four-run inning in the fourth. The Rams won games one and two of the series, giving them the overall series win.  
  
Colorado State faced New Mexico in a close contest, ultimately falling short. In the first inning, Jailey Wilson walked and later scored on a triple by Bradie Poteet-Herrera. Autumn Rutherford singled, allowing Poteet-Herrera to score, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead. 
  
In the second inning, Allyson Moody's triple was followed by a run scored on a fielding error, pushing the lead to 3-0. New Mexico responded with two runs, leaving the score at 3-2. 
  
The fourth inning was notable for the Rams as Kyra Smith hit a two-run double, and Abby Edwards notched her second double of the day, scoring two more runs. 
  
In the fifth, New Mexico's three-run home run tightened the score to 7-6. They took the lead in the sixth, scoring two runs to make it 8-7. 
  
Colorado State tied the game in the seventh with a single by Edwards, but New Mexico answered with a solo home run, securing the 9-8 victory. 
  
Andrea Jaskowiak started on the mound for the Rams, pitching two innings and allowing three hits, notching a strikeout during her appearance. Reagan Wick followed with two and a half innings of relief. Giselle Bentley pitched one and a half innings, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out one, while Olivia Schmidt closed the game effectively, coming in during the seventh and allowing no hits, throwing seven of her nine pitches for strikes. 
  
Abby Edwards was a highlight through the game offensively, collecting three hits and driving in three runs, including two doubles in her five plate appearances. Kyra Smith contributed with a double and two RBI, finishing with one hit and one walk. Poteet-Herrera added a triple and scored two runs, along with one RBI in five plate appearances. Rutherford recorded two hits, including a double, and drove in one run while facing five pitchers. 
  
Colorado State will return to Ram Field on Friday March 27 to face Boise State in its third conference series of the season, with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
