2008 (Junior): Steve gained experience during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

2007 (Sophomore): During the indoor season, Steve scored with a seventh-place finish in the 800 meters (1:54.02) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb.22). During the outdoor season, he posted four scores. At the Rob Upton Invitational (March 24), he finished second in the 1,500 meters (3:59.18) and fifth in the 800 meters (1:58.31). At the MWC outdoor championships, he finished fifth in the 1,500 meters (3:51.41) and eighth in the 800 meters (1:55.05).

2006 (Freshman): During the indoor season, Steve scored twice. At the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 3), he finished fifth in the 800 meters (1:58.30). At the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 23), he finished fifth in the mile (4:21.72). During the outdoor season, he scored twice in the 800 meters. At the Rob Upton Invitational (March 25) he finished third (1:54.76), and at the MWC outdoor championships (May 10) he finished seventh (1:51.93).

High School: Steve lettered in both track and cross country while attending Lakota East High School in Liberty Township, Ohio. He was named all-league in track and cross country all four years and all-state in cross country his junior year. He earned multiple individual team honors. He holds the school record in the 800 meters, mile, two mile and 5K. He was named cross country team captain from his sophomore through senior years.

Personal: Steve was born Oct. 23, 1985, to Tim Swartz and Kelly Gulley in Middletown, Ohio. He has a sister, Tiffany. He is majoring in graphic design.
